On the basis of 33 sample villages surveyed 119 RNFS activities were identified, 47 belonging to trading, 37 to manufacturing & processing and 35 to the services sector. An attempt was made to map RNFS activities at block level and to identify emergent, high share and high growth activities. High share activities include wooden furniture, readymade garments, oil expeller activities. High growth activities include bakery & confectionary products, embroidery works and brick making. Emergent activities were identified as fruit processing, automobile spare parts outlets and various retail outlets such as provision stores, tea stalls, restaurants, pharmacies, cloths/yarn store etc. Traditional activities that process potential for development include weaving and reeling and bamboo handicrafts, which exist in various villages in the district. As regards the role and participation of woman in RNFS section, it has been found that woman take part as marginal workers and usually assist their men- folk, but a change in the trend of woman participation in RNFS activities is seen i.e. more of them are coming forward and willing and taking up RNFS activities as their means of livelihood.
