Findings
The study showed that Arunachal Pradesh has the lowest unemployment rate of 2.67%, while Tripura has the highest with 33.78% of the youth being unemployed in the state. In terms of aggregate numbers Assam leads the table with 13, 92,940 youths without any job followed by Tripura with a total of 3, 70,708. The state of Manipur too has a considerable number of its youth population in the unemployed list. A notable fact is that, the share of the educated and other education, the job opportunities have not registered any increase. This has resulted in an increasing number of technically and professionally qualified are unemployed youths in the region. Through various state sponsored programmes are implemented in the region a wide gap exists between demand and supply side and it can be that these schemes have not been able to make any perceptible impact on the situation. The study suggested utilization of the resources of the region and for this its important that , the skills of the youths are adequately developed.
