Indain Institute of Entrpreneurship (IIE) in collaboration with India Infrastructure Finance Company Ltd. (IIFCL) & National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC) initiated a programme titled IIFCL-NSTFDC Skill Upgradation and Economic Empowerment of Tribal Handloom Artisans in the North-Eastern States. The project would comprise of eight batches in the tribal pockets of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Nagaland and Sikkim. The batch size will be of 25 unemployed tribal women. Each programme will be of 300 hours duration/60 working days to be completed within a period of 3 months. The main objective of the programme is to upgrade the existing skills and entrepreneurship among tribal handloom artisans.  The artisans would be imparted on the job training in the improvised looms by master craftsmen and would also be educated about intricate designs under the expert guidance of efficient designers for catering to wider markets. As such an orientation programme for the master trainers, assistant master trainers cum training coordinators and designers of all the 8 states was organized on 9th and 10th April, 2015. The programme was formally inaugurated by Shri Manoj Kumar Das, Director, IIE. Dr. Sriparna B. Baruah, Head CIE, IIE , Shri Hemanta Rabha, Senior Project Officer, IIE and Shri Santosh Kumar Singh, Assistant Zonal Manager,NSTFDC, the master trainers, assistant master trainers ,the designers of eight identified pockets of north eastern states and the state coordinators of IIE were present on the occasion.
