Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship (IIE) under the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship organized the Valedictory Programme for two skill training programmes on Traditional Jewellery Designing & Making and Block Printing & Life Style Products sponsored by Women Cell, Office of the Commissioner of Industries and Commerce, Govt. of Assam on 29th August 2017 at IIE campus. The two programmes were for duration of 3 months with a batch size of 25 women trainees for each programme. The valedictory programme started with the inauguration of an Exhibition cum Sale by the Chief Guest - Hon’ble Minister of Industries & Commerce, Govt of Assam Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary. The exhibition which displayed handcrafted products developed by the trainees will continue till 31st August 2017 at IIE campus.

 Chief Guest Hon’ble Minister of Industries & Commerce, Govt of Assam in his speech emphasized on the various initiatives to be taken by the Govt. of Assam for promoting women entrepreneurship like a Women Hub for women enterprises, participation in exhibitions in South East Asia considering the Act East policy of the current government of India, promotion of women entrepreneurs in cluster mode and focus on skill development at the block level. He appreciated the effort of Industries department and IIE towards promoting innovative and value added products through these trainings.

 Also present at the meeting were Guest of Honour Additional CS, Industries & Commerce Shri Ravi Capoor, IAS. He applauded the efforts of the trainees to have developed such innovative products. Director IIE, Shri Manoj Kumar Das gave the welcome address and stressed upon the importance of skill development programmes and need for creativity. A brief presentation covering the details of the all programmes for Women under Industries and Commerce department were presented by Additional Director, Manjula Saikia Bhuyan and also Dr. Sriparna Baruah Head CIE of IIE presented the outcome of the two training programmes. There was an emphasis in both the presentations towards taking these initiatives to the next level in terms of marketing and brand building.

 These two programmes focussed on innovative and creative product development retaining the traditional motifs of Assam. Majority of the trainees are enthusiastic to start their own business ventures in jewellery segment and set up block printing centres. Value added products like copper jewellery, silver jewellery, macramé jewellery, beads jewellery etc. have been developed and hand block printed life style products like cushion covers, bed covers, bags, table mats, runners etc. are few of the products.
